The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation — working with the nonprofit New York Restoration Project — completed one of the earliest and most successful tree planting initiatives in the US. The City has added tens of thousands of trees to NYC streets and parks over the past decade.

Public areas aren’t all dedicated to amenities like baseball fields or tennis courts. Most parks maintain natural areas where wildlife, trees and other vegetation can thrive — and where visitors can simply walk in the woods.
The Forests in Cities Network brings together a select group of cities working together to protect and enhance forested natural areas within their urban boundaries.
